Chomsky

John Cusack

This is just stupid. It's good for one hour and half of laughing and watching John Cusack. He is always ... cute.

The movie fools around the 1980s, which is kind of sad because the 1980s is awesome for my generation. But at the same time, I felt the 1980s is really old days. Man, 30 years ago ... I can believe this.

Disney Ruins Tim Burton and Johnny Depp

I watched this in 2D, of course. I learned with Avatar that I'd get sick with 3D. But obviously, this movie was designed for 3D for sure.

Anyway, this movie is not good enough for entertainment. In fact, I was disappointed, almost shouting, "Where's the beauty of Tim Burton?!" "Where's the acting of Johnny Depp?!" Johnny Depp worked fine with Disney, regarding "Pirates of the Caribbean," but he doesn't in this movie that was also produced by Disney. Tim Burton, either. I think Tim Burton should go back with Warner.

Production aside, I don't feel comfortable with the ending of the movie. Does it imply that Alice who could be the conqueror (or savior?) of the wonderland will become a conqueror, exploiter, ruler, or whatever of other lands in reality. Man, that's white ideology. White people don't conquer everything, man. Why fairy tales are all about white?! Yeah, of course, they were created by white people. But that kind of concept is not appropriate today, and the problem is, Disney, one of the powerful media giants, is emphasizing that distorted concept.

Man, I just wanted to have fun with my friends tonight, but Disney ruined it!

Changed My Mind?!

This may sound contradictory, but I had a best class ever today. Only students who regularly attend class attended. No distracting students!

I gathered them around me, and I also sat (I usually stand and walk around in class). The atmosphere was perfect: a living room kind of feeling, friendly, relaxed. I believe students also enjoyed that atmosphere in which everyone felt easy to speak up and interact with each other.

If I can have this kind of class forever, teaching is not bad at all. I don't know, I'm so ambiguous about teaching right now.

Sick and Tired

I've been so sick and tired of bluffing, stupid students. That's why I spent two weeks for nothing, NOTHING! I'm so angry, thinking that I have wasted my time, and at the same time, I feel enervated.

I still like those kids who seem (or pretend) to be enjoying my class, but I'm sure that I don't like teaching.

Here begs a question: Why am I doing Ph.D.? Then, I feel more enervated, or alienated (Marx!) from what I'm doing. I don't feel like doing anything other than drinking ...

Shutter Island

DiCaprio is a good actor, yeah, that's for sure. The story ... well, I may have watched several similar plots before. But, this is a Scorsese movie so that it's worth watching.

Sunset

We had a beautiful sunset tonight though the weather during the daytime was aweful: thundering, raining, cold, etc. etc.).

Happy Mother's Day

Well, I'm not a mother, and I won't be. But, DS invited me for Mother's Day dinner and gave me a card signed by her family, which is nice. Also, she and her boyfriend gave me a bottle of wine and bottle holder as a souvenir from Florida. Of course, they were travelling Florida, and I was house sitting while they were out of town. It is nice of them because I didn't expect. Anyway, it was not a big deal to house sit her house and kids, and actually I enjoyed staying in her house, drinking her alcohol, driving her old car, and having people to speak to all the time. I will miss it.
